Overview
The 6045 South Kenwood Building is a former Illinois Bell switching station renovated to serve as a campus office building. The top two floors house the Toyota Technical Institute of Chicago (TTIC), an affiliated degree-granting computer science institute. The remainder of the 5-story building is occupied by staff offices, a training center, and data center for University IT Services. The building exterior and roof were repaired, and the interior was completely gutted and reconfigured. An internal atrium above the 2nd floor was enclosed and reconfigured as a connecting internal staircase and walkway. The building earned Gold LEED certification for its energy saving features.
