Quantum Lab Renovation

January 28, 2026

The Mason Lab retrofits existing dry lab space to support quantum materials research, with a focus on the electronic properties of nanoscale and correlated systems, such as nano-scale wires, atomically thin membranes, and nanostructured superconductors. This work will entail the installation and reconfiguration of MEP infrastructure, casework, and minor finishes upgrades.

Schedule:

  • Start: Monday, February 2, 2026
  • The work will happen in 1 phase and will continue through June 2026.

  • Demolition of an electrical panel within Room 021 will also happen during the week of February 2nd. The impact of this shutdown is only isolated to Room 021 and is not anticipated to impact other areas of the floor or building.
  • Demolition of a concrete-masonry unit (CMU) wall is expected during the week of February 10th and 16th. Sawing & hammering, including vibration and extra noise, should be expected during that time.
  • Typical construction noise and some vibration impact of sawing, hammering, etc. should be expected.
  • A few sprinkler heads in the area of work may need to be relocated, which will require a drain down of the sprinkler line in the basement. The rest of the building will remain unaffected. Further coordination & communication will be forthcoming at that time if needed.
