Investing in Our Employees: Facilities Services and City Colleges of Chicago Partnership

Since this winter, Facilities Services (FS) has been pushing a one-of-a-kind program curated by Finance and Business Services and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC). The associate degree program is a win-win for FS employees who qualify. Not only is financial aid available, also, UChicago reimburses 75% of tuition for all passed classes towards the program. Who wouldn’t take advantage of this opportunity?

Well to help get the word out, staff from Harold Washington College were on-site at an informational session at the Facilities Services Building to provide information as well as answer questions about how to earn an associate degree through CCC. They explained that employees have the option to take classes virtually and on-demand, or in-person. With convenience in mind, FS employees can log on and complete assignments at their leisure as long as they meet the classes and professors’ deadlines.

Carpenter, Courtney Jones views it as a return on an investment. He envisions investing now and making the sacrifice to earn the degree that will in the long run along with his skillset help him earn more money on the job. Leon Watson, landscape services worker, came prepared with his transcript from classes taken at another institution. CCC staff were able to help determine which credits are transferrable and began the enrollment process on the spot. Nine employees have submitted applications into the program thus far. This opportunity is open to all FS employees seeking to earn an associate degree. If you missed the meeting and are interested in learning more or have questions about the program, reach out today to someone on the FS HR Team.
