Facilities Services Staff Celebrate Juneteenth at UChicago

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, Facilities Services staff at the University of Chicago joined fellow colleagues and community members for a joyful Juneteenth celebration hosted by the Community Engagement and Belonging Committee (CEBC). Held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Wells Parking Lot at 60th Street and Drexel Avenue, the gathering brought together staff from across campus to honor this important day of freedom, reflection, and community.

Sponsored by the Office of the Provost’s Diversity and Inclusion Initiative, the event featured a complimentary lunch, uplifting music, and a moving presentation of the National Black Anthem. Attendees were invited to enjoy the festivities in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. As staff gathered in community, the celebration offered a meaningful moment to connect across departments and acknowledge the continued importance of Juneteenth in both historical and present-day contexts.

Facilities Services team members participated not only to enjoy the camaraderie, but to show visible support for the values Juneteenth represents. Their presence reflected the department’s commitment to building a workplace culture grounded in diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

The active participation of Facilities Services staff at events like this helps foster a more inclusive campus environment—one where every individual and every team has a role to play in honoring the past and shaping the future.
