"The University of Chicago's Joseph Regenstein Library is one of the great academic libraries of the world. The renovation creates a collaborative learning center where students can work together in interactive groups." said Woodhouse Tinucci Architects, the firm responsible for designing the featured renovation. The Regenstein Library renovation was noted as a "Breathtaking Renovation" in the September/October issue of American Libraries.
According to the article, the renovation adds a crucial component of modern academic spaces to the Brutalist complex: collaborative learning areas. Once filled with cubicles, the library’s central zone is now a flexible, open space that can be divided by movable panels fitted with whiteboards, lighting, and power connections.
