Known as one of the world’s great intellectual destinations, the University of Chicago has enriched its Hyde Park campus by building a unique venue where meeting of the minds can take place. The David Rubenstein Forum completed construction in the fall of 2020 and is now open for meetings and events. The staggered tower structure features robust cantilevers up to 40 feet from the building’s core, among the longest concrete structure cantilevers present in Chicago. The David Rubenstein Forum was recognized by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) IL for excellence in concrete construction in the mid-rise category.
The Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards honors exceptional concrete construction from around the world. Projects are recognized for the degree of innovation, complexity, achievement, and value that concrete as a material provided. Recently completed and nominated concrete projects are juried by an independent panel of industry professionals for first- and second-place category awards. The award will be presented at ACI IL’s annual summer golf outing and awards banquet.
