Overview
The New Chicago Theological Seminary consisted of the construction of a 78,000 gross square foot, 4-story seminary with full basement for future growth space. The first and second floors house faculty and staff offices, classrooms, a small chapel, and a meditation space. The third floor houses the Learning and Student Commons. General assembly rooms are located on the fourth floor in the form of a worship space and adjacent dining room, with support facilities including a sacristy, kitchen, and storage. Design included a green roof and energy and resource saving features. The building is LEED certified.
This new construction project was a partnership between the University of Chicago and the Chicago Theological Seminary. The Chicago Theological Seminary is an independent educational institution and affiliated seminary of the United Church of Christ. Construction of the new seminary building was a part of the agreement between the Seminary and University for the purchase of two existing Seminary buildings located adjacent to the University campus.
