Campus South Program: Construction Updates

Below is the monthly update for May 2019. The information details construction activity planned at the two Campus South project sites.

Woodlawn Residential and Dining Commons - 1156 East 61st

  • The east tower crane is removed from the site, the crane foundation is currently being demolished. This work is noisy but will be completed by the end of the week. 

  • Remaining slab-on-grade concrete work continues through mid-May.

  • Continue installation of electrical, mechanical and plumbing infrastructure.

  • Continue installation of the exterior wall enclosure and window installations.

  • Small crews of 7 to 15 workers are expected to work Saturdays for the next four weeks; anticipated working hours are 8 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.

  • Vibration Monitoring Update:  None of the monitors have been triggered since the last update.

Rubenstein Forum - 1201 East 60th

  • The concrete structure continues to advance vertically, currently at the 5th floor. The target completion of the concrete structure is August 2019 at (10) stories above grade.

  • Large truck deliveries will be consistent for the foreseeable future as mechanical equipment and other systems arrive onsite.

  • Perimeter scaffold installation is ongoing and will continue as the building progresses vertically.

  • Construction crews will be working weekends throughout May 2019 due to heavy rainfall over the past several weeks; anticipated working hours are 8 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.

  • City of Chicago sewer work in Woodlawn Avenue is complete.

  • Remaining utility connections in Woodlawn Avenue will take place in May/June 2019. Through traffic will be maintained.

  • ComEd utility work continues along 60th Street between Woodlawn and Ellis Avenues 

We have installed a message board north of the sidewalk on 61st Street - at the end of University Avenue to display construction status updates.
