The SafeRide Program, formerly the Late Night Van Service, provides the campus community with safe, on-demand transportation during late-night hours within the area patrolled by the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD). The SafeRide Program is now operated by Transportation and Parking, which took over operations from UCPD in early January 2007. The SafeRide Program is fully accessible to the disabled, and all drivers are professional with commercial driver’s licenses and passenger endorsements.

University faculty, staff, or students within the following coverage area (see map) can request the service:

• North to 39th Street, south to 64th Street
• East to Lake Shore Drive, west to Cottage Grove Avenue

The SafeRide Program hours of operation are:

• Sunday through Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
• Thursday through Saturday, 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Participants should be aware that the service operates on a “first-call, first-come” basis so be prepared to wait, usually no longer than 20 minutes, for your ride. The number to call (from any phone) is (773) 702-2022. The caller must provide the dispatcher with the precise pick-up location and drop-off destination to ensure a time-efficient trip.
