Transportation & Parking: Transportation Alternatives

OCCASIONAL PARKING PROGRAM

Even if you prefer to take alternative transportation to campus, sometimes it may be necessary to bring a car. Whether you have to run errands after work or carry a carload of equipment, faculty, staff, and students who qualify (see Eligibility Restrictions) can sign up for occasional parking on campus. This program gives you 24 free parking passes per year, which you can use at any time you choose. This gives you the flexibility to bring your car and park for free when you need to, but continue to use alternative forms of transportation as your primary mode of transportation.

How It Works

Eligible participants are issued 24 pre-validated (pink) passes per year for the Ellis parking structure. Upon entering the garage, pull a white ticket and retain it — you will need it to exit. Upon leaving, go to the pay station located on the 1st floor near the Ellis entrance. Insert the white ticket and wait for the prompt for the total. Then insert the pink ticket to finish the validation. Wait for the white ticket to dispense. Proceed to the exit (Greenwood or Ellis) and insert the white ticket into the ticket box to exit. You will have 10 minutes to exit.

Full-time participants who have used their 24 free passes, or part-time participants who need to buy more uses, can do so at the Parking Office. Additional passes may be purchased at $8 each, half the regular cost of a parking pass.

Part-time University faculty, staff, or students who are on campus two or fewer days per week can also purchase parking passes at $8 each.

Any leftover uses, free or paid, can be rolled over into the following year. Participants are asked to use up their passes prior to requesting additional passes. Transponders are no longer issued for the Occasional Parking program, and they will not be renewed.

Restrictions and Penalties

Participants may not sell their Occasional Parking passes. Transfer of use is against policy. Any participants who are caught allowing someone else to use their Occasional Parker passes will forfeit any uses including paid uses, turn in their Occasional Parker passes, and be forbidden from participating in the program. They will also no longer be eligible to purchase a monthly parking permit or be eligible for the GRH program, Car Sharing program, or carpool parking.

Participants may not park their vehicle at the Ellis Garage beyond 8:00am the day following use of a single occasional parking pass. Occasional parking passes are intended for one day of parking only. Vehicles found in the Ellis Garage longer than 24 hours without a valid monthly permit can be towed at the owner’s expense.
