CAR SHARING PROGRAM

Car sharing is the short-term use of a vehicle for a fee through a membership-based organization. Vehicles are available for as short as an hour. Users pay for time and/or mileage each time they check out a car.

Instead of bringing your car to campus for errands, meetings, or other chores, leave fuel, insurance, and car maintenance costs to someone else.

In Chicago, we are fortunate to have two car-share providers, I-GO and ZipCar. Both have vehicles on campus and throughout Chicago to make it easy to find a vehicle when you need one. The University and the Medical Center have car-sharing vehicles located at these parking lots:

I-GO:

ZipCar:

There are also several other cars, from both providers, around Hyde Park. Go to www.igocars.org/locations or www.zipcar.com/chicago/find-cars for more information.

The University provides subsidized membership to the I-GO program for one year for qualifying employees and students. Please fill out and submit the application (link below) to sign up for this program.

You are eligible for this program only if you already primarily use alternative transportation. See Eligibility Restrictions. In addition, you must be over 21 years of age and meet the eligibility criteria of the car-share provider you choose.
